Practical Teachings of Yoga

Overview

The practical teachings of yoga touch every aspect of our lives—from physical health to the most sublime states of consciousness, from life in this world to our transition to the next. These teachings lead us step by step toward more vibrant health and toward freedom from fear, grief, and loneliness. More specifically, as we put the practical tools of yoga to use—its principles, physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation practices—we strengthen our body, breath, and mind and come to understand them at increasingly subtle levels, allowing us finally to experience our essential nature, which is blissful, ever free, and immortal.

Exactly how does this transformative process of yoga work? And can we wholeheartedly embrace the gifts that yoga offers us, or might yoga in some way be incompatible with our religious faith? How can yoga’s teachings prepare us to greet death joyfully and fearlessly? You will find answers to these questions in this series by Swami Rama.
