Building Resilience

Resilience is the capacity to prepare for, recover from, and adapt in the face of stress, adversity, trauma, or challenge. The ability to build and sustain resilience is related to self-management and regulation and efficient use of energy resources. A person’s resilience can vary over time as demands, circumstances, flexibility, and maturity change. The most important skill to learn is how to increase the capacity to self-regulate emotions, attitudes, and behaviors. By learning self-regulation techniques that allow us to shift our physiology into a more coherent state, the increased physiological efficiency and the alignment of the mental and emotional systems build resilience. Using modern biofeedback techniques, your breathing and current level of resilience will be assessed. Based on your individual status, specific self-regulation techniques based on ancient yoga wisdom and modern science will be recommended for daily home practice to build your resilience.

Relaxation and Meditation

Guided Relaxation

Beneath the ups and downs of life there is a profound state of balance. By regularly resting for brief periods in that state, we create a resilient and stable mind even in the face of stress. Yoga relaxation exercises quiet the senses and lead us beneath the restless surface of the mind. Through relaxation we restore a sense of inner harmony. Thus systematic relaxation is the systematic practice of resting the body, nervous system, and mind. In this session you will learn more about and be guided through a systematic relaxation.

Guided Meditation

In the Himalayan Tradition, meditation refers to specific practices for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. In meditation, the body is relaxed, yet the mind is fully awake and alert. When the mind is relaxed and focused, it is more fully able to be present. The process of resting awareness in a focus is called concentration. Maintaining one-pointed concentration for a longer period of time is called meditation. When concentration is maintained, the mind becomes one-pointed, and the experience is centering and calming. In this session you will learn how to sit properly and the correct practice of meditation.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga (defined from IAYT). During a session of yoga therapy, a yoga therapist listens to your history, assesses your current physical capacity and needs, and then creates a personalized therapeutic program adapted to your unique concerns. Yoga therapy works on all levels to awaken your inner healing potential, allowing you to step onto the path of complete living.
