Sound of Music Hill is a world in itself, separated from the rest of campus by a double row of towering, 150-year-old Norwegian spruce, planted by early owners of the property. As you walk through this evergreen canopy and across the grass to the hill’s summit, you are greeted by a stunning panorama of rolling hills and sky. Stretching below you is a verdant slope whose appearance gives the hill its name. Absorb the beauty that surrounds you while sitting on one of the benches or chairs provided.
On the left side of the hill is our beloved apple orchard. Every fall, the Institute community gathers to pick the apples. Soon after, they reappear in the Institute dining hall as applesauce, pie, and cider.
