The Awakening of Kundalini
Kundalini shakti—the vast reservoir of energy, intelligence, and power within each of us—is often depicted as a coiled snake resting at the base of the spine. The sages speak of awakening kundalini and systematically guiding it from the lowest to the highest chakra, leading to intense bursts of creativity and transformation along the way. The completion of this journey at the sahasrara chakra, it is said, takes us to the highest peak of human experience—extraordinary power and enlightenment. But what is this mysterious shakti, really, and how can we tap into it? In this previously out-of-print article, Swami Rama explains what kundalini awakening is and is not. He describes the authentic methods of awakening kundalini that the traditions of yoga and tantra have kept alive for millennia, distinguishing these from false ones. As he takes us on a journey through the landscape of the subtle body, he explains the psychobiological vortices and knots (chakras, nadis, and granthis) and describes how unlocking the capacity of each furthers our quest for fulfillment and freedom.

Shakti Sadhana: An Introduction
The tantric scripture Tripura Rahasya teaches the stages of enlightenment in a systematic way, so that an aspirant can attain the highest state of consciousness. Its beauty lies in the fact that it expounds the lofty knowledge of inner truth while systematically offering practical instructions on shakti sadhana. Swami Rama explains the three main schools of shakti sadhana—kaula, mishra, and samaya—and how they awaken the dormant fire within, leading to higher awareness.

Transitions: Living & Dying a Yogi (Part 2)
How can you enjoy life to its fullest? Examine your fears. The fear of losing what we love most keeps us from living fully. Death is the greatest of all fears. As the saying goes, everyone dies—beggars and sages alike. But accomplished yogis know how to die consciously, without suffering. Can we experience the same? As Swami Rama explains, the path of self-transformation helps us master our desires and eliminate our fears. We do this through a dedicated practice of meditation and self-dialogue. Examine your desires. Most of us are drawn toward a variety of sensual pleasures, all of which are fleeting. But yogis use the mind as an instrument to truly enjoy life and to discover divine bliss, which is eternal. They transcend the three states of consciousness (waking, dreaming, and sleeping) in samadhi. In this previously unreleased video from 1987’s Path of Fire & Light lectures, Swami Rama explains how the practices of meditation, yoga nidra (yogic sleep), and self-dialogue help us transcend fear and negativity to find unending joy—and how, when the time is right, the same practices can help us die peacefully and painlessly. This is how to live and die a yogi. Format: Video with audio download Length: 54 mins

Where Is Dharma Today?
“Our society today has been shattered into pieces,” states Swami Rama. Our materialistic attitudes, the rise in fear and insecurity, and the prevalence of religious dogma have led to the eclipse of dharma—a turning away from the higher values of life. What is needed to restore dharma? How can we learn from the past, overcome our differences, and create a promising future?

What exactly is dharma, where does it come from, and what does it look like in thought and action? How can we reawaken it? Swami Rama outlines the changes needed today in our approach to self-development and our system of education in order to restore the dharma taught by the sages.

Energy & Consciousness
What are we made of, and where did we come from? Are we more than what we perceive as our body, mind, and emotions? If so, how can we tap into this deeper level? Most of us experience ourselves as body and mind—the “I” that tells us we’re young or old; an accountant or musician; a brother, mother, husband, or wife; happy or dissatisfied. This is what the yogis call abhimana (self-identity). Yogis, on the other hand, experience themselves as much more than this limited set of identifications. They come to actually experience (not just imagine) the cosmic dance of energy that flows through the body, illuminates the mind, activates the pranic pathways, and finally comes to merge with pure consciousness itself. In this previously unavailable article, Swami Rama distills the wisdom of yoga and tantra to demystify such esoteric concepts as nadis, kundalini, prana, chakras, and cosmic consciousness. He tells us how we can begin to tap into kundalini—the force of life and consciousness that exists in each cell of our body and in everything else, all the way to the stars and galaxies. The inward path of meditation and pranic awareness is the key. This path allows us to tap into the vast reservoirs of our hidden potential. Read on, and discover the secrets of how to experience life at the highest level—the level of energy and consciousness!
