Chakras & Self-Understanding
“Know thyself on all levels,” taught Swami Rama. Tantra tells us that by understanding ourselves, we come to understand the whole universe. But how can we understand ourselves on every level? The science of chakras gives us a profound window on our body, mind, and consciousness. In this never-before-released lecture video from 1991—available exclusively here—Swami Rama explains how chakras (the centers of shakti, or divine energy, within us) guide us and map the terrain of our spiritual journey. Understanding the language of chakras helps us experience each chakra as a gateway to various levels of consciousness leading to the highest goal. You will want to watch this Wisdom Classic if you are curious about why the muladhara chakra is a kunda; how shakti comes to reside in the svadhishthana chakra; why the anahata chakra is the door to the higher chakras; what it means to meditate on the ajna chakra; and why the sahasrara chakra gives us access to unsurpassed, eternal joy.

Where Two Shrines Converge
“Every human being is a shrine” is the timeless message of the sages. We are familiar with external shrines: sacred spaces where countless seekers have worshipped throughout the ages. It’s one thing to visit a spiritual shrine and have an experience of divinity, but another to realize that everyone we meet (and we ourselves) are shrines. We are plagued with so many problems—guilt, envy, self-condemnation, disconnectedness—that sometimes the last thing in the world we feel like is a living shrine! As Pandit Tigunait explains, this is because a war is being waged in each of us between the human and subhuman. The human in us—loving, giving, open, selfless—came directly from the divine. The subhuman in us—divisive, fearful, selfish—is self-created and reinforced through our thoughts and actions. This internal battle means a great part of our life goes in vain. We spend our life fighting rather than living, and forget our divine connection. In this instant classic, Panditji delivers the message of two shrines via the fascinating stories of three great souls: Saint Raidas (the humble cobbler from Agra), Saint Jnaneshwar (the child prodigy who wrote a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita at age 13), and Saint Francis of Assisi (the patron saint of animals, who saw God in every living thing). Just as external shrines help us come in contact with divinity, our internal shrine—the heart, the seat of our soul—does the same thing, even more profoundly. When we come in come in contact with our inner shrine, we experience more fully the divinity in external shrines, and we rediscover our connection with the divine in every living thing. This is the blessing of shrines. Format: .mp3 audio file with download Length: 1 hr 28 mins

Exploring the Kanda: Seat of Our Creative Potential
Using their divine sight, yogis can perceive patterns of energy and intelligence far more subtle than the physical world. They have passed this knowledge down to us, along with practices to tap into the hidden powers of the body and mind. Many tantric texts describe the kanda (bulb), from which the nadis (currents of life force) emerge. As with bulbs found in a garden, the kanda is the source of potential and nourishment—and embodied life is the plant that sprouts and flowers. Join Sandra Anderson on March 17, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. EDT for this live lecture and practicum to get a glimpse of what the kanda means for our quality of life and spiritual growth. Explore movement and breathing practices designed to unleash your power of vitality, protection, and nurturance.

Netra Tantra: Harnessing the Healing Force (Part 2)
Fresh from the Himalayan Institute vaults, and released publicly for the first time, Part 2 of 2007’s Netra Tantra lectures brings you the secrets of how the maha mrityunjaya mantra and its associated practices can help us transform and heal ourselves on every level. As Pandit Rajmani Tigunait explains, there are a variety of shaktis within and without that contribute to our vitality and power—or, if we are not careful, diminish it. These shaktis include rudra mata (the force of nurturance), brahma–rakshasa (what makes us a monster), yogini (the force of our internal shrines), damari (the voice of our conscience), and apamrityu (the force of untimely death—and of immortality). Through scripture commentary and practical instruction, infused with vivid stories from his own experiences, Panditji teaches us how to work with 11 key shaktis by using mantra japa, contemplation, lifestyle and emotional choices, and visualization. Watch Part 2 of Netra Tantra: Harnessing the Healing Force and learn how to uncover the mysteries of spiritual vibrancy—and tap into the elixir of immortality! Unlocking the Power of Gayatri & Maha Mrityunjaya Mantras
The gayatri and maha mrityunjaya mantras are two of the greatest gifts to humanity. They can be learned and practiced without formal initiation, but are most effective when we know something about what they are and how they can help us. The 24-syllable gayatri mantra (“the mother of the Vedas”), which was originally revealed to the sage Vishvamitra, embodies the energy of protection and purification. Like a compassionate mother, it guides and nurtures us as we learn to forgive others and ourselves. The maha mrityunjaya mantra (“the great death-conqueror”) is said to have flashed forth from the third eye of Shiva himself. This mantra helps us overcome the greatest fears—of loss and death—and leads us to discover the inner source of our health and vitality. In this lecture video, Pandit Tigunait explains what these two mantras are, where they came from, and how practicing them infuses us with the essence of nurturance and healing. Once you have watched the video, head over to the Practice Resources section and download pdfs and audio tutorials of these two mantras so you can start practicing today! Netra Tantra: Harnessing the Healing Force (Part 1)
What is the secret to harnessing the healing force? The secret, according to the Netra Tantra, lies in understanding the power of healing and vitality known as Mrityunjaya—one of the aspects of Shiva, and the conqueror of death. We can tap into this power by practicing a particular mantra, along with undertaking a special course of self-study where we identify 15 major physical, mental, and spiritual diseases in ourselves and work toward eliminating them once and for all. In this rare, exclusive lecture video from 2007—released publicly for the first time here—Panditji shares his fascinating experiences with the maha mrityunjaya mantra and related practices described in the Netra Tantra. In Part 1 of the Netra Tantra: Harnessing the Healing Force lectures, learn how mantra can help us transcend the first 4 of these diseases: bhuta (the ghosts of our past), yaksha (our inner and outer demons), graha (what holds us captive), and unmada (mental weakness and instability) so we can begin to heal ourselves on every level.
