Well, day one and I’ve done some dabbling in Ayurveda, have had the pleasure of taking a workshop with Dr. Blossom once-up-on-a-time and have 3 friends who are Ayurvedic practitioners.  Thus, not being a newbie when I take the test it is a challenge to see what is my nature as opposed to what I have cultivated as opposites that have become ingrained over time as compensatory measures to create balance.  Maybe this is control and I definitely clicked control.  Today my scores are 11-9-4 and it is my guess that typically I am more Pitta, but with the spring upon us Vata is slightly higher and excessive due to the damp shore climate where I reside and the March Winds, etc.  I will follow the Vata-Pita selections but am wondering since I typically respond quickly can I vary the Kitchari and Porridge throughout the week slightly depending upon my schedule etc.  It was fun to take note that I did not have to purchase an ingredients especially for this week as they were all already on my shelves.  Would it be ok to use small amounts (maybe 1/4 tsp) of Trikatu along w/ black pepper?

    • http://www.doctorblossom.com/ Doctor Blossom

You can vary the kitchari and porridge a bit but it’s always best to keep it simple during a cleanse. One of the reasons we emphasize the mono-diet is that your digestion gets a break from producing a variety of enzymes. You can use Trikatu or black pepper right now but if you already have pitta symptoms I would not recommend using it liberally.

      Enjoy!

Aha, I read ther “Getting started” pages which helped alot.  I have another question though:  can I drink tea…regular tea?

    • Lsparrowe

I believe you should stick with the herbal teas; detoxing from caffeine is part of the process. does that make sense?

  • Darcy

how do i know this is working?  i came out 12/14/14, then read the comments below and made a few changes to reflect general patterns instead of last month or so.  And nothing changed on totals when I again hit totals.

    • Yoga International

Hi Darcy, please try re-loading the page. Thanks!

    • Darcy

ok – thanks.  now its 11-15-13  seems a little closer to what I have
been told by ayurvedic physicians (pit-kaph)  ALtho I too am menopausal
with very intense hot flashes – i tried Shatavari didnt work and now
starting don quoi.  Suggestions?  i have been following a similar diet
(ie just the way I eat every day) for several years, so this isnt much
of a change except the special tea and broth. (altho my usual tea is
ginger and water).  I will have to stop chocolate its seems, and I drink
decaff coffee – so that has to go too?  (herbal chai with raw milk
ok?)   how about maple syrup or stevia  instead of honey – i was told
not to put honey in hot drinks.   Also I am confused about no onions and
then there are onions in the broth?  (i avoid as too tamasic)    And IS
there a special diet to follow – or just pitta balancing?  (altho I
have weakened digestive fire so I cook with spices to enhance pitta)   maple syrup or stevia  instead of honey – i was told not to put honey in hot drinks.

      Hello Darcy,

I would recommend that you follow the pitta protocol for this event. As for the menopausal symptoms both the diet and the lifestyle routines will help to restore hormonal balance. If you would like more recommendations, you can setup an online consultation with Doctor Blossom for more specific advice.

Please try to only drink your recommended herbal tea and avoid dairy during your cleanse. Maple syrup is acceptable to use for your situation. Honey should not be directly cooked but it can be added to warm but not boiling liquid.

The rejuvenating veggie broth has onions because they are grounding to the body. In excess, onions can either dull or aggravate the mind but they help to stabilize the body so they can be helpful after a period of cleansing. The onions in the broth are boiled in water so the effect is much milder than eating them raw or cooked.

      Good luck!

When I took the quiz, I am 19-9-4. According to my Ayurvedic physician, I am pitta vata with many menopausal symptoms. When I have done any kind of herbal cleanse which affects the liver, I end up intensifying the symptoms. Which program do I need to follow?

    • http://www.doctorblossom.com/ Doctor Blossom

I think it would be wise to follow the Vata protocol since you are in a major transition in your life. This diet and the protocol will support the liver and an Ayurvedic cleanse is much gentler on the system than other types of cleanses.

      Good luck!

Well I’ve taken this test 3 times and I get numbers like 5-6-7 or 8-8-8  when I read the individual doshas it seems as if most of Pitta fits but I have been diagnosed with depression and have had problems with alcohol and substances in the past.  I am 9 years away from that and have made a lot of adjustments in my lifestyle so I wonder if I have changed my constitution- I love hot firey yoga practices and am a marathon runner, I sweat a lot and yeah there is odor, but I also enjoy sitting in silence for periods of time, love a yin and restorative yoga class…

    • http://www.doctorblossom.com/ Doctor Blossom

From the description here, it sounds like you have more of a Vata-Pitta constitution and I would follow that protocol for your cleanse. If you feel confused at all, I would recommend you meet with an Ayurvedic practitioner. We are available to help you at Doctor Blossom with an online consultation if that is something you would be interested in.

      Good luck!

  • Pam small

This is a little confusing. do the items in each column only apply to the header.  For example under the heading “under stress” is “eats hot spices”
What if you eat hot spices all the time???

    • Lsparrowe

good point!  the items basically apply to how you live so I definitely think you need to check that one!

  • Hopee

recent double mastectomy…3 surgeries in 6 months…would this account for a high kapha?  I have always been pitta/vatta.  I am pretty tired.

    • Lsparrowe

absolutely it would my dear.  That’s why we encourage people to answer the questions based on their overall life tendencies instead of what’s going on for them right now. The good thing about this cleanse, by the way, is that it will help lift the kapha energy. Good luck. I hope you’re doing better now. Be gentle with yourself, of course, during the yoga portion. We do provide some lovely restorative options that you can modify to serve your needs.

  • mysticrose

I’m usually vata pitta I also came out vata / kapha? any insight on this?

    • Lsparrowe

Someone suggested it might be the “winter profile”! Try taking the test based on your overall, lifelong tendencies (not your temporary condition) and see if that makes a difference.

  • bronwyn

vatta-kapha – right on the money!

  • Rebecca

I am using an iPad and when I press calculate totals it does nothing.

  • Guest

12-10-12- its all so close, what does that mean?

    • Lsparrowe

sounds like you’re tri-dosha to me! take a look at the section that describes the tridoshic personality and needs.

    • Guest

       thank you

    • Lsparrowe

means that you should look at the “tridosha” suggestions…you’re equal amounts of all three!

  • Maveret

I usually come out vata/pitta, but here I’m vata/kapha.  Maybe this is my winter profile.

    • Lsparrowe

could be. Doctor Blossom says that taking the test with your lifelong tendencies in mind (instead of how you’re feeling right now) will give you a more accurate reading. Give it a try and see what happens.

  • diane

opps, I clicked the “show totals” after the first column and after I completed  the test the totals aren’t changing.  How do I start all over.

    • Yoga International

      Hi Diane,

Please try reloading the page. Thanks!

  • http://www.facebook.com/sandra.cubiharris Sandra Cubi-Harris

Surprised that my highest number shows in Vata, I thought I was more like Kapha

  • Traveler3300

I agree, need to know what the numbers mean

  • Jamie Mumber

Am I going to learn what these scores mean?

    • Yoga International

Thanks for asking! We’re working on
adding the dosha information and should have it for you in the next day or so.
