Organic Gardening Apprentice Program
May – September 2012

Learn and practice the art of organic gardening
while participating in the Himalayan Institute Residential Program. This five-month apprenticeship provides hands-on experience and training in organic gardening techniques, as well as participation in the full range of educational programs and community activities available to Institute residents.
We will focus on
- organic methods for composting,
- mulching,
- seed propagation,
- greenhouse techniques,
- plant selection,
- crop planning,
- bed preparation,
- soil types,
- pest and pathogen control,
- seed saving,
- irrigation,
- and cultivation.
You will receive practical skills and knowledge to manage your own garden and to teach others the basics of organic horticulture. Program includes plenty of fresh air and a high level of physical activity. The program begins with a month-long Self-Transformation Program, included in the cost. For those unable to commit to the full five months, a two month program option may be available.
Cost:
- $1,350 for the five-month program
- $1,100 for the two-month program
- Scholarships may be available for qualified students
