Dr-Carrie-w Carrie E. Demers, M.D.
Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Demers is a holistic physician who blends modern medicine with traditional approaches to health. After receiving her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and completing her residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Demers went on to study massage, homeopathy, nutrition, herbal medicine and Ayurveda. She is on the faculty of the Himalayan Institute, and is Medical Director of the Institute’s Total Health Center. Dr. Demers has been interviewed by numerous magazines and newspapers and lectures nationally on holistic health and ayurveda. She is a frequent contributor to Yoga International.Services:

Michelle Head, DC
A chiropractor and certified applied kinesiologist with a private practice at the Himalayan Institute Total Health Center, Dr. Head has a holistic philosophy of health care.  She evaluates the structural, chemical, and mental aspects of health utilizing manual muscle testing. She earned her Doctor of Chiropractic degree with Summa Cum Laude honors from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa, a BA in natural sciences and a BM in piano performance from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.  Dr. Head lectures on stress management, workplace ergonomics, and headache prevention.Services:

Sheela Porter-Smith, MSN, CMN, FNP
Sheela Porter-Smith is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner/ Certified Nurse Midwife. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Nursing (1987) SUNY Buffalo; Midwifery Certification (1988) SUNY Downstate; and Post Masters Degree in Family Practice (2001) College Misericordia. Sheela has practiced in a variety of settings as a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife. These include Wellness-Oriented Primary Care and Holistic Midwifery/ Women’s health. She incorporates conventional medicine as well as diet, homeopathy, yoga, and pranayama into her practice. She is a candidate for National Homeopathic Certification and is currently completing coursework for Diplomat in Homeopathy. She is also currently enrolled in the New World Ayurvedic Practitioner Program and Himalayan Institute’s Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist Training. She is a 200 RYT and a candidate for certification as a prenatal yoga instructor.Services:

Shari Friedrichsen
Teaching yoga for more than 35 years, Shari Friedrichsen is a key facilitator of the Himalayan Institute teacher certification program. Shari has studied asana, meditation, and philosophy with respected teachers  Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Rolf Sovik, Amma Sri Karunamayi, and BKS Iyengar. An expert in subtle anatomy, her unique style integrates breath, alignment, and anatomical awareness to draw the student into the inner experience of each posture. Her approach uses yoga as a vital, powerful and compassionate component in healing the body and the psyche.Services:

Mary Cardinal
A yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and educator, she has studied yoga and yoga therapy for over a decade.  She serves as a yoga therapist for the Himalayan Institute Total Health Center at the Himalayan Institute’s international headquarters in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. She is the former coordinator of the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association, and holds degrees and certification in both traditional and Montessori education.Services:

Judy Moulton Judy Moulton is an E-RYT 500 Hour teacher trained and certified by the Himalayan Institute. Practicing yoga and meditation since 2006 and teaching since 2008, Judy believes in the healing and transformative power of yoga and has experienced its benefits in her own life. She relies on the support of her own personal practice in her daily life as a teacher, wife and mother. Judy is a contributor to and lives, works, and teaches at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA.Services:

Larry Gerhardt, RN, BSN
Larry Gerhardt received his Bachelor of Science of Nursing from the University of Minnesota in 1985, specializing in post-surgical and geriatric nursing.  He is currently practicing as a registered nurse in long term care in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  A certified biofeedback therapist through the Biofeedback Institute of America, he has been working in this capacity at the Himalayan Institute Total Health Center in Honesdale, PA, since 1992.Services:


Nema Nyar, LMT A graduate of the Santa Fe School of Massage (formerly the Dr. Jay Scherer’s Academy of Natural Healing), Ms. Nyar has been practicing massage continuously for over 20 years. She is trained in Swedish Massage, Myopathic Muscular Therapy, Shiatsu, Jin Shin Jyutsu, and Bowen Therapy. She often uses energy work in conjunction with deep physical work, and has the ability to find and address causative factors of pain in the body.Services:

Donnalee Tyler, LMT
Donnalee Tyler is a graduate of the Sedona School of Massage, Sedona, AZ, and trained in Swedish, Connective Tissue (Deep), Cranial Sacral, Ortho Bionomy, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu, Polarity, Myofascial, Muscular/Skeletal therapies, and Oncology Massage (Light Touch). A Reiki Master/Trainer, she is certified in Usui, Karuna and Violet Flame Reiki.Services:

Marlies Dambrot, LMT
Marlies Dambrot, a native of Switzerland, began her training at Massage School Massein in Bern in 1988. In 1996 she graduated from the Cortiva Institute(formerly the Somerset School of Massage Therapy) in Somerset, New Jersey. She built a successful private practice, working full-time since 1999. She combines Positional Therapy, Neuro-Muscular Release and Deep Myofascial Release in her sessions, tailoring each treatment to fit the needs of the client. Julia Wittich
Julia Wittich is a certified Rosen Method Bodywork Practitioner. She received her BA in Women Studies and Photography from SUNY @ Purchase, and then expanded her studies with a year program in Art Therapy to work with women’s relationships to their bodies. After discovering the Rosen Method, she spent 10 years training at Rosen Center East, and Rosen Method Open Center, while raising two young children. Her work is greatly influenced by her experience nursing both her mother and sister through premature illness and death. Julia has a tremendous capacity for joy, and acceptance of sorrow and pain. She uses heart centered presence to stay open to the challenges of life. Her delight is to support both men and women during intense life transitions, and to help them transform from the person they were taught to be, to who they truly are.
