MEDICAL

Holistic Medical Evaluation
Holistic healthcare evaluates the whole person (body, energy, mind) and utilizes both modern and natural medicines to treat diseases. It emphasizes diet, exercise, and stress management, which promote true healing rather than just alleviating the symptoms. Our provider uses yoga, homeopathy, and diet and lifestyle changes as core therapies.

Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist Consultations
Our student clinic offers you a personalized understanding of how the principals of ayurveda are applied to help you regain balance and improve general health and wellness. Our goal in offering these sessions is to provide clients with moderately priced ayurvedic consultations with recent graduates from our HI AYS Torchbearer program. We want to support these graduates in applying the science of ayurveda and yoga to clients in individual consultations with clinical supervision.

In each session the ayurvedic yoga specialist will work with the client to identify dosha imbalances, educate the client in basic concepts of ayurveda and apply those ideas to developing a plan to begin to bring the client back to balance. They will offer a range of yoga and ayurvedic practices for each client’s individual wellness plan including: ayurvedic lifestyle and diet recommendations, along with yoga, asana, pranayama and meditation. The goal of the session is to support the client to move toward balance and wellness.

THERAPEUTIC BODY TREATMENTS

Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care involves correcting misalignments in the spine and extremities which allows the nervous system to function optimally. Utilizing Applied Kinesiology, Dr. Michelle Head performs manual muscle testing to identify areas that need to be addressed. Treatments may involve gentle adjustments to the spine and extremities, recommended changes in diet, and suggestions for stress management.
Initial evaluation: $125–155
Follow-up visits or adjustments only: $45–55

Massage Therapy*
Massage therapy involves light to deep stroking of soft tissue with or without oil. Massage boosts the circulation of blood and lymph to remove waste products and nourish the body.

A recent survey of massage therapy research studies shows that massage significantly reduces:

  • blood pressure,
  • heart rate,
  • situation-specific (state) anxiety,
  • anxiety that is related to personality,
  • pain (when evaluated some time after the massage is given), and
  • depression.

Our massage therapists may integrate several massage techniques including positional release, energy work, strain-counterstrain, and deep myofascial therapy, in order to address the individual person’s needs and preferences. The depth of pressure is adjusted on an individual basis as well.

Swedish Massage*
The most well known of the massage techniques. The basic strokes are flowing and rhythmical, facilitating and encouraging improved circulation, deep relaxation, and bliss as tension melts away and yields to a state of harmony.

Deep Tissue Massage*
This technique helps with chronic muscular pain, muscle spasm, and injury rehabilitation, and can reduce inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendonitis. The pressure used is specific to your body’s needs and is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

Prenatal Massage*
Known to minimize the discomfort that occurs during pregnancy, this massage relieves fluid congestion
and pressure due to weight gain, dissolves tensions, encourages healthy circulation, and promotes restful sleep.

Myopathic Muscular Therapy*
Myopathic Muscular Therapy comes out of the osteopathic tradition and is especially helpful for tight muscles. Gentle compressions are first employed to calm the nervous system. Stubborn knots are then addressed with deeper pressure and stretching small segments of contracted muscle, which unblocks the circulation and removes waste products. Over several sessions, muscles begin to remember how to maintain a more relaxed state. Clients report much relief from pain and restriction. Though single sessions can be very helpful, best results are achieved when the treatment is initiated with three sessions over three days. Oils are not used in this therapy.

Shiatsu*
Shiatsu stimulates the flow of energy and circulation in the body by applying deep pressure to the meridian points (acupuncture points). Shiatsu is used to create a general sense of well-being and relaxation. No massage oil is applied. The client remains clothed during the treatment.

SPECIAL TOUCH THERAPIES

Hot Stone Therapy*
The body is stroked with velvet-smooth basalt rocks that have been heated and oiled. The warm stones facilitate the relaxation of muscles and increase circulation and metabolism. Contact with the stones feels grounding and connects you with nature.
90 minutes–$145

Rosen Therapy
Body-centered therapy that combines gentle touch and deep listening, creating a safe space to explore and release places in the body where traumas and beliefs have been stored.
Initial Evaluation: 90 minutes–$145; 60 minutes–$120

Jin Shin Jyutsu*
Jin Shin Jyutsu is the art of restoring the body’s subtle energies to optimal functioning. When the energy flows properly, harmony is created in our physical, mental, and emotional aspects.

The process involves the application of minimal pressure on sites that “jump-start” the flow of energy throughout the body. The client remains clothed during the treatment. Clients often report feeling deeply relaxed, and many can feel the energy flowing and moving through blockages.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is helpful for everyday ailments as well as deeper trauma. While one session is very helpful, the benefits are greater with repeated sessions (for example, from weekly sessions up to 20 sessions over 10 days). Benefits can be maintained by learning to do Jin Shin Jyutsu on yourself.
60 minutes–$75; package of 3–$210
15 minutes of self-help instruction–$15

Bowen Therapy
Developed by Tom Bowen in Australia, this work targets the energetic and nervous system to improve
the structural integrity of the body. Bowen is different than other therapies in that a small number of movements are done on the body, alternating with periods of rest. During the rest periods, subtle energetic integration occurs, which creates a state of relaxation that deepens with subsequent treatments. It has a great effect on the lymph system, which helps detoxify the body. The work is done over light, loose clothing, and multiple people can be seen at one time.

Because of the depth of the detoxification, some people experience fatigue for a day or two after their sessions. Clients are asked to drink lots of water, to take a walk, and to keep moving throughout the day of their treatment. Other bodywork therapies tend to stop the Bowen therapy from working, and clients are asked not to get other bodywork for at least a week. Some conditions are helped in one session, while others need a series of weekly sessions to be effective.

Bowen may help all kinds of structural issues, fatigue, and more internal issues such as digestive complaints and breathing and immune disorders. Many people report feeling more peaceful after receiving these sessions.
30-45 minutes–$50; Package of 3–$135

*Add Steam: $35
