Dear Teachers and Friends,
It is becoming increasingly important for yoga teachers to have a home – a place to turn to for training, inspiration, and support. By becoming a member of the Himalayan Institute Teacher’s Association (HITA) teachers have the opportunity to expand their teaching skills, reinforce their personal practice, and take advantage of the Institute’s resources for teachers: professional insurance, a broad list of helpful publications, and on-line resources to name a few.
Through HITA, teachers can draw upon the wisdom of a 5000 year-old tradition with roots in the cave monasteries of the Himalayas. The founder of the Himalayan Institute, H.H. Swami Rama, was very aware of the importance of yoga teacher training, and taught the first classes for Institute-trained teachers himself. His successor, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, frequently participates in training programs for teachers and he is keenly interested in expanding the scope of our modern understanding of yoga.
In addition, our committed staff works diligently to provide the finest training to members. Some of you are no doubt exploring teaching for the first time. For you, the 200-hour training program is the place to start. Experienced teachers may want to complete more advanced certification through our 500-hour program. Teachers trained through non-HITA programs may simply want to become members of HITA so that you are eligible for workshops for teachers and other benefits of membership. We offer our resources to you and look forward to hearing from you.
In service,
Rolf Sovik, Psy.D. and Sandra Anderson
