As we discovered during the course of our weekend together, life unfolds in a graceful arc from birth to death. Each stage of life has its own purpose and meaning. The purpose of the third stage of life—which dawns as we complete our responsibilities as parent, employee, or employer—is fulfillment (bhoga) and freedom (aparvarga). In other words, in the years from 50 to 75 or 80, we’re primed both by biology and neuropsychology to become established in the deep, enduring sense of identity that flows from an experience of the inner self.
The practices offered here will reinforce the insights and skills introduced during the seminar. They are a means of stepping away from an exclusive identification with the parts of us that change and forging an enduring connection with an ever-deepening sense of self. Along the way, these practices will awaken sense of inner peace, inspire self-confidence, strengthen resolve, and focus the mind.
