Our membership fees go beyond serving you. Fifty cents out of every dollar goes directly to our global humanitarian projects.
In northern India the Institute has adopted four schools. Before, the schools’ survival hinged on poorly paid teachers, often with other full time jobs, and tuition fees of about fifty cents a month that few local families could afford. Now, because of member support, the Institute provides incentives to students and teachers to educate local villagers on basic sanitation, health, and ecologically responsible farming techniques.
Three nations claim ownership of the mountainous Kashmir region in the northwest corner of the Indian subcontinent. Perennial conflict and unrest are creating a generation of orphans in an area so inaccessible that not even helicopters can approach cliffside villages. The Institute has adopted twenty-five of these children, providing lodging, boarding, and education. This project is maintained through collaboration with the India Vision Foundation, a non-governmental humanitarian organization active in India.
One of the Institute’s most successful humanitarian projects centers around energy farming. Our model, under various stages of development from Asia to Africa promotes sustainable rural development through the cultivation of the Pongamia pinnata tree. The project's unique success derives from its agricultural flexibility (Pongamia takes to both arable soil and unused wastelands), and its small farmer appeal. Ever increasing demand for the final product, energy, ensures that the process is lucrative, while the grassroots cooperation required to grow and process the Pongamia into biofuel ensures that the wealth is quickly spread and invested back into the community.
