200-Hour Certification Program
Three-Week Training Intensive
July 13 – Aug 5, 2012
Drawing from traditional yoga theory and practice as well as modern knowledge of the body and mind, this program at the Himalayan Institute headquarters in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, is designed to maximize your effectiveness as a yoga teacher and practitioner.
The course includes:
- Asana practice and teaching
- Yoga philosophy and psychology
- Study of the Yoga Sutra
- Systematic breath training
- Pranayama practice and teaching
- Relaxation techniques and teaching
- Structuring and sequencing classes
- Practice teaching
- Theory and practice of meditation
- Stress management tools
- Anatomy and physiology
- Introduction to Sanskrit
- Functions of the mind
- Study of the Bhagavad Gita
Typical Daily Schedule:

Prerequisites: At least two years prior experience in hatha yoga and a regular practice. Participation is by application only.
Certification:
Participants who complete the program receive Yoga Teacher Certification from the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association (HITA) and are also eligible to apply for the 200-hour level of registration (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. Certification requirements include: full attendance in the training intensive, required reading, exams, and written assignments. Most participants complete their certification requirements in six months to one year.
