The 10-day meditation slot includes 2 Weekend Seminars and a 4-day Intensive.
JULY 25 - JULY 27 : WEEKEND SEMINAR The Yoga Sutra One by One.
The definitive text on yoga was written by the sage Patanjali over two thousand years ago. Consisting of just 195 short sentences, Patanjali’s words offer countless layers of insight into the spiritual aims of yoga. This seminar includes the opportunity to learn a little Sanskrit, translate ancient theory into modern practice, and reflect on the final goal of yoga. You will also catch glimpses of other texts, such as the Bhagavad Gita, as we move through the text.
Major topics include:
- The overall architecture of the text
- How Patanjali measures yoga in terms of progress in working with one’s mind
- What to do with a mind that seems both unsteady and preoccupied
- How the Sutras explain the difficult relationship between the conscious and the unconscious mind
JULY 28-31: 4–DAY INTENSIVE The Yoga Sutra One by One.
The intensive consists of an evening program, beginning at 7:30 or 8:00 pm. The daytime hours include morning classes and free time for meditation, study, exercise, rest and invitation to karma yoga.
Hours are applicable towards the Institute's teacher training program at the 500-hour level. AUGUST 1-3: WEEKEND SEMINAR Heart Fire: Tending the Flame of Your Sva Shakti with Shiva Rea.
Join a celebratory retreat honoring the sacred heart fire of our sva shakti - the core energy and essence of the Self. This experiential weekend will initiate a ritual cycle of renewal in the living yoga sadhana (practices) to tend your heart fire. The seminar can be applied toward Shiva's 500-hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Program. Together we will explore:
- The universal and ancient understanding of our heart center from tantra, hatha, and bhakti yoga, integrated with the latest view of our heart's intelligence
- Vinyasa Flow sequences that awaken the body mandala and heart temple by expanding the range of motion and circulation of the outer house of our heart with the inner space of the anahata (heart) chakra
- Integration of tantric hatha yoga techniques of pranayama, sound, visualization, and bhava (feeling states) in asana
- Tending the fire of the sva shakti through meditation and chanting, and releasing the rasa, or "liquid love" of the heart
- Healing emotions or energy in motion through meditations and kriyas (rhythmic movement)
- Symbolic wisdom, metaphor, and poetry of the heart from yogic texts
The accommodation rate indicated below is for a 10-day/9-night stay.
