Himalayan Institute Class Descriptions

All Levels Yoga and Meditation
Pre-Requisites: None – class is appropriate for all levels of experience including beginners.

This class provides a model for a balanced personal practice to take home with you. It includes 45 minutes of asana (postures), 10 minutes of relaxation, exploring the pranayama practices of Kapalabhati and Nadi Shodhanam, and concludes with a 10 minute seated Meditation.

Asana Fundamentals Class
This class is open to all Residents and Guests!

This class provides progressive instruction on Asana and Pranayama throughout the first week of the Self Transformation Program Course. The classes lay the foundation to access the subtle body through asana. The class focus is on Pelvic/Abdominal Strength, Standing Poses, Diaphragmatic Breathing, and Guided Muscle Relaxation

Level 1 Yoga and Meditation
Pre-Requisites: None – class is appropriate for all levels of experience including beginners.

This class is for those who are either new to yoga or who would like to continue developing a basic understanding of the major classes of asana poses.

Levels 2 & 3 Yoga and Meditation
Pre-Requisites: We recommend students have some comfort and familiarity with all major classes of asana poses and sun salutations.

Level 2 & 3 classes offer a range of experiences to challenge and deepen your practice of Yoga and Meditation. Classes include vigorous asana flows, longer holds, and techniques to refine your sensitivity to the flow of Prana in the subtle body. Pranayama practices include Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, and Nadi Shodhanam. Class will close with systematic relaxation and seated meditation.

Joints & Glands
A set of simple, pleasant stretching exercises that can be enjoyed by everyone. These exercises increase circulation to all parts of the body and help to improve overall flexibility. By releasing accumulated tensions in the joints and glands, the exercises help restore a natural vitality to the body and mind. Purchase the book and DVD here.
