Kumbo Public Library
Carpentry and Construction program leader Marten met with plumbers, electricians, and carpenters this week at the Bernard Fonlon Information Centre, site of the future Kumbo Public Library. Together they surveyed the infrastructure of the two-story building and discussed how to actuate the community’s collective dream of a public library. The project, which officially began last month with the signing of a support pledge by Cameroonian and Honesdale leadership, awaits the estimates of local contractors to begin in earnest.
25,000 books are already being stored by the Himalayan Institute Community Center here in Kumbo. When the Kumbo Public Library opens, it will house over 30,000 books, providing knowledge to an estimated 500 people per day. The Lord Mayor of Kumbo and the Senior Division Officer are anxiously awaiting the start of construction.
