You are welcome!
This is the first greeting that the group received as they arrived in Kumbo. It’s a long journey from Douala, but the destination is the reward.
As the international delegation of 16 departed the bus, they were greeted in the traditional way with African song, drums and dance. “I can’t believe that the Institute has achieved this in such a short time,” said Ronak Desai from the USA. “I’m really moved by the staff and the care they put into everything they do.”
The delegates arrived from around the world to join the launching of the Himalayan Institute’s 2008 Rural Empowerment Initiatives. The Fon (King) of the Nso Kingdom welcomed the delegates with a warm reception and paused to have his picture taken with the group. “The Fon of Nso had a huge celebration for us,” said Karen Lewis, a guest from Wisconsin, USA. “We had a private audience with the Fon, soon after we participated in a traditional dance, and then we were allowed to enter the palace for a reception. He really welcomed us with open arms.”
Tomorrow marks the official launching of the Himalayan Institute’s 2008 Rural Empowerment Initiatives. Royalty, government officials, citizens of Kumbo, HI Cameroon staff members and international guests will attend the ceremony in the local arena.
